Maricely Barnett Obituary

Our WonderWoman, Maricely Barnett, was called home on November 21, 2022 at 2:26pm at the age of 46 years old, after a courageous battle with cancer. Marie started her battle with cancer in 2013 and went into remission the first time in October 19, 2013. After 5 years and 5 months in remission, the cancer returned on her remaining lung in March of 2019. For the last 3 years and 10 months, she fought extremely hard, inspiring and encouraging all those that interacted with her. She was never defeated, but instead, maintained an optimistic attitude and knew that remaining positive was an important part of her fight.

Known as our WonderWoman, Marie played the part and owns just about every WonderWoman memorabilia item and clothing article that exists. But her being our WonderWoman spread far beyond her collectibles or clothing. Marie was a warrior whose strength was beyond compare and motivated us daily to stay the course and fight alongside her. She was compassionate and cared more about those that surrounded her than her own situation, constantly asking us if we were caring for ourselves, eating good meals and focusing on our goals. Like WonderWoman, she trained her mind and body daily to make sure that she was equipping it to fight this cancer. She taught us how to be #MarieStrong and persevere, be courageous and never give up.

Marie was a great sister, mother, daughter, cousin and friend who is survived by many who love her and were on her side throughout the fight. As a sissy, she leaves behind her sisters, Julissa and Barbie, her brothers Anthony and Ziggy and her sister-in-law’s (who she may or may not have loved more than biological siblings) Sandra and Sharon. She was an amazing aunt who is survived by her godson Niko, and nieces Alani and Dari whom she always treated as her own. As an amazing daughter, she is survived by her mother (or mama as she would always say) Luz, and her father, Julio. And her most prized role is being a mother to two amazing girls, Celine and Adrianna, who she leaves behind to the care of her siblings and mother. The love doesn’t stop there as she is also survived by a number of cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends who also love her deeply.

Join us on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, from 6pm-9pm at the Alvarez Funeral Home located at 240 Mt. Prospect Ave in Newark, NJ to celebrate and honor her life.
