Shannon L. Taylor Obituary

Shannon Lenwood Taylor Sr. was called home on June 10th, 2022 at age of 57. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack at home surrounded by family.

We are here to celebrate the life and homegoing of Shannon Lenwood Taylor Sr. He was better known throughout the community as Lamush. Mush was born here in Newark, New Jersey on June 22th, 1964 to Edna Smith and the late Otis Smith.

Mush grew up in the city of Newark, New Jersey where he attended Barringer High school. He worked for Coca-Cola in his early adult years and then maintained various employment throughout his lifetime. He was a jack of all trades and could adapt quickly to the titles he held, including his more prominent interest in being a self-taught mechanic.

Some of his interests included singing and storytelling, which many of you have experienced. In his head he was Marvin Gaye, and nobody could tell him otherwise as the lyrics flowed out from his mouth. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and bringing laughter to those around him with his outgoing personality. Mush was always the life of the party. He was a man who would be the center of attention wherever he went due to his positive energy, crazy antics, and memorable phrases. If you were feeling sad or just having a bad day he could always put a smile on your face. Like he would say “ I’m sufficient, Say no more”.

He is survived by his children Yazmeen Curtis (Daniell),Khaliah Washington, Takiera Bunn (Oterron), Shanell Adora Aiza, Shannon Taylor Jr., Chantal Taylor, Ashley Paddy (Shaqualle), his mother Edna Smith; siblings Sharon Jones, Sheila Agurs (Velma), Evelyn Smith (Anthony), Donna Mayo; grandchildren Suhaylah Washington, Keaymon Garris, Stephén Osby, Jasmine Curtis-Wright, Jamiya Curtis, Asani Bunn, Jeremiah Souza-Curtis, Kristian Taylor, Zendaya Taylor, Shannon Taylor III, Zamira Taylor, Ky’Moni Paddy; great-grandchildren Shaquan Washington, Dei’ziya Washington; nieces and nephews Manel Smith, Jamellah Nesbitt (Erb), Tamisha Reed (Kareem), Tysheedah Hollenback (Kimberly), Sharek Hollenback, Francisco Smith, Sharnise Jones (Hafiz), Staysha Jones, Ja’Nell Jones, and Kashmira Jones; long time significant other Kim Smith and many others.

Mush will forever live on in the hearts of all of us. He was a fighter until the end, never fearing anything. The best rest is the rest with no worries, and we are at peace knowing Lamush is finally resting. As Psalms 30:5 says: “weeping may endureth for night, but joy cometh in the morning”.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life repass gathering Saturday, June 25th at 4 pm at 241 north 4th street Newark, New Jersey.
