Stephen M Massa

We regret to announce the passing of Stephen M. Massa of South Orange, New Jersey on January 13, 2022. He was born on November 3, 1957. After graduating from Columbia High School in 1975, he went on to study accounting at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated in 1979. After graduation, he began working in New York City for Credito Italiano, establishing a nearly 30 year career in international banking. Over the years, he worked for Bank Leumi USA and Union Chelsea National Bank as an auditor and vice president, retiring in 2007. He used his new found leisure time to turn his love of animals into a successful dog walking/pet sitting business as well as managing an apartment property near his home. He was a person of faith and a devout Catholic. He was a devoted son who had a deep love for his family. He was an ardent fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets. He enjoyed going to Atlantic City with Mom and Dad, playing hockey, swimming, and relaxing at the Jersey Shore. Stephen is predeceased by his parents, Rose and Frank Massa, sister Rosemary Massa, and brother-in-law, David Nawrocki. He is survived by his brothers Donald (Agnes) and Frank (Darawan), sister Joanne Nawrocki, many adoring nieces and nephews, lifelong friend Juan Rodriguez, and many relatives and close friends. Visitation will be at Alvarez Funeral Home, 240 Mount Prospect Ave, Newark, New Jersey 07104 on Friday, January 21 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Michael’s Church 172 Broadway Newark, New Jersey 07104 at 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life memorial service and interment will be held at a later date.
