William Merced Jr. (Junbo), 49 years of age, a military Veteran and retired Correctional Police Officer has come to his end of watch on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey.
William was born on April 15, 1970 in Newark, NJ to the late Santitos Gonzalez. He is survived by his father William Merced Sr and siblings Noel and Eunice Merced.
William joined the United States Army National Guard in 1987 and served as an Infantry Soldier until 2000. He earned the rank of Specialist and received the following awards during his tenure; Army Achievement Medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon numeral two, Marksman Badge with Grenade Bar, and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. In 1988 he graduated from Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark, NJ. In December of 1991 he began his career as a State Correctional Police Officer and retired from Northern State Prison in December of 2019.
William loved building car models, taking pictures, listening to music, spending time with the Loyalty Car Club, fixing his house, being a mentor, and spending time with family. He was a loving and caring person, devoted boyfriend, father, brother, and friend, always thinking of others first. “To know him was to love him.”
William leaves to cherish his loving memory his sons, Brandon William Merced, Peter Torres, God-Son Luis N. Franqui, Loving girlfriend Rosie Torres and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, step-sisters, step-brothers, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and friends.
